Rainbow Families offers several signature events throughout the year.
Members get early access to registration, which is great as many of these events sell out. Additionally, Rainbow Families' members receive discounts, where possible.
Great Wolf Lodge Resorts Trip
(typically in March)
Rainbow Families coordinates family getaways for our community where we can enjoy a weekend away while ensuring your family isn’t the only LGBTQ+ family at the resort. These weekend getaways are either to
Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg, VA or to the
Great Wolf Lodge in Perryville/Baltimore, MD; depending on availability. Great opportunity for families with children of all ages! Great Wolf Lodge’s
“One Pack” commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion provides a welcoming environment for our families to have some fun!
Pride Month
(June)
June is Pride Month and Rainbow Families does our best to attend and celebrate as many pride festivals in the DMV as possible. We always walk in the
Capital PrideParade in DC and have participated in
Arlington Pride,
Prince George’s County Pride,
Reston Pride, and
Montgomery County Pride.
Family Camping Weekend
(typically Labor Day Weekend)
Every Labor Day Weekend, Rainbow Families take over the
YMCA Camp Tockwogh in Worton, MD for a weekend of community and family fun. Activities include arts and crafts, archery, a pool, and beach activities on the bay. Accommodations range from tent camping to cabins and a conference center. The
YMCA is committed to serving all people and provides a welcoming space for our families.
Hillwood Estates Family Picnic
(typically the last Sunday in September)
Rainbow Families collaborates with
Hillwood Estate, Museum, & Gardens every September for a Family Picnic in their beautiful oasis right in the heart of Washington, DC. Families bring their own picnic meal or pick something up at the
Merriweather Cafe on site and enjoy the gorgeous Lunar Lawn while playing games and enjoying the late summer weather.
Cox Farms’ Fall Festival
(typically the first Sunday in November)
Cox Farms in Centerville, VA hosts a fabulous Fall Festival every year and Rainbow Families rents a pavilion for our families to enjoy the festivities. Activities include hayrides, lots of slides, petting farm animals, pumpkin patches, and more! Cox Farms is owned and operated by a family that includes LGBTQ+ members.
