Mission & Values

Welcome to Rainbow Families
Since the 1970s, Rainbow Families has offered education, resources, and support services for LGBTQ+ parents, families, and parents-to-be.
We connect with over 10,000 people monthly through our membership, communications channels, and our signature social and educational programs including Maybe Baby – our multi-week course for prospective LGBTQ+ parents.
No million dollar budget here; no flashy celebrity-studded galas either.
That’s not Rainbow Families.
We are a grassroots nonprofit in service to the LGBTQ+ family community. Always have been, always will be. It’s about the work.
We have built our reputation on integrity, stewardship, coalition building, and goodwill.
Our community based organization is led by an engaged volunteer Board of Directors, small staff, and numerous volunteers & interns for which we are especially grateful.
Welcome to Rainbow Families! How may we be of service to YOU?
Our Mission
Rainbow Families supports, educates and connects lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) families, parents and prospective parents by offering a wide variety of education programs, support groups, opportunities to connect and more. Rainbow Families is a volunteer led non-profit organization supported by members, community sponsors, private and public grants and foundations.
Our Vision
Rainbow Families envisions, and strives for, a nation where all LGBTQ+ families can legally, openly and safely live in full equality.
Our Guiding Principles

- We believe all LGBTQ+ families should feel safe, respected and valued in their community
- We believe all LGBTQ+ families should have access to culturally competent, inclusive and welcoming schools, child care, health care and social services
- We believe a connected and empowered community affirms LGBTQ+ families and advances their rights
- We believe Rainbow Families has the responsibility to empower all LGBTQ+ families through community engagement, education and support
- We believe Rainbow Families must represent all LGBTQ+ families and we strive to reflect the diversity of the people we serve
- We believe intersectionality and anti-racist values must remain a priority in our work, programs, events, management, hiring practices and actively work towards these values
