Benefits of Membership
Important Note: We are a service organization for LGBTQ+ families, prospective parents, and allies.
If membership dues are cost-prohibitive for you, please send an email in confidence to our Executive Director.
Rainbow Families does not want economics to be a factor in connecting with your community and receiving benefit of membership.
Members of Rainbow Families have access to our Member Directory. This directory is a great way to connect with families whom you have met at events, but may have not exchanged contact information. Only logged-in members have access to this directory. Members have control of their privacy settings and the information available to other members. In order to access the directory, you must first log in to your account then click Member Directory.
Members have access to our ever-growing list of LGBTQ+ friendly service providers and practitioners.
Rainbow Families provides this list in the hopes of connecting our individual community members with access to community resources. Rainbow Families has a desire to support queer (and queer-supportive) communities, businesses and resources. Often, queer individuals seek out care from other queer individuals who may better understand their lived experiences; this directory allows providers to identify themselves as part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Rainbow Families never sells space on our directory. We have proposed a small annual contribution from providers to assist us with managing the project and database. This is completely at their discretion.
Members-Only Facebook Group
Community, connection, and information sharing are fundamental to fulfilling our mission at Rainbow Families. Members have access to our closed Facebook group. Here, members can ask questions, seek advice, get support, and share parenting stories.
Playgroups - As a volunteer-driven organization, why not volunteer to organize a playgroup in your area? It's a great way to make connections in your local community. We are always looking for volunteers to help initiate playgroups throughout the DMV. Volunteers serve as the playgroup coordinator and help to welcome families who attend. As a volunteer, you determine the playgroup's date, time and location that works best for you, and we’ll help spread the word to families in your area. One-time commitments are always welcome!
If you are interested, post a playgroup on our Closed Facebook page, or e-mail Rainbow Families with "Playgroup" in the subject line.
Programs & Events
Rainbow Families offers several programs and organizes numerous events throughout the year for LGBTQ families and prospective parents. Programs include our Maybe Baby Class, Support Groups, Annual Family Conference and much more.
