Volunteer OpportunitiesThere are many ways to get more involved with Rainbow Families! Rainbow Families depends on people like you to share their time, talent and expertise. Our volunteers are involved in all areas of the organization from on-going planning to one-time events. To become a Rainbow Families volunteer, call 612-827-7731 , email us at connect@rainbowfamilies.org or download our Volunteer Profile (PDF: 31KB/1 page). Simply fill it out and mail it in! Among the many opportunities for volunteering are the following: Speakers' bureau Represent LGBT families at speaking engagements, school classes, panel presentations or staffing tables at events. Individuals comfortable with news media also needed. For more information check out our Speakers' bureau. Office support Stuff envelopes, staple and stamp, and assist staff with larger projects and clerical duties. Daytime availability is especially appreciated! Event assistance Sell t-shirts, take admission, pour juice, and welcome families to our fun-filled events. (Oh, yeah... set-up and clean-up, too!) Newsletter Contribute to our remarkable publication! Write an article, review a book, take photos at an event, or proofread and edit. School advocacy Get involved in evaluating and compiling different resources available to parents for creating change in schools, focusing on fitting parents' different levels of involvement in their children's schools. Organize informational gatherings during the year for parents. Programming Join with others to oversee the events calendar for the whole year: Create new opportunities such as social gatherings, Pride events, kids' activities, Halloween dance and more, for parents and children to meet others and build community. Adult education Be a part of developing conference workshops by identifying key issues for our community and recruiting presenters and panelists. Also, work to create additional opportunities for parent education throughout the year. Children/youth programming Participate in planning activities for kids of all ages at Rainbow Families events. Kids activities at Pride, the Halloween Dance, and our annual conference are a big part of what makes Rainbow Families events so fun for the whole family! Sponsorship Work with the executive director and our resource development director on developing and nurturing relationships with corporate and major donors. Work with previous conference sponsors to solicit donated goods, gifts, advertising or funds. Board of Directors Have you volunteered for Rainbow Families in the past and want to be more involved? Rainbow Families has a hard-working, fun and talented board made up of members who participate in the vision and planning of Rainbow Families. Rainbow Families' board is a working board. Each member takes leadership in a particular area. The term for each member is 3 years. We are looking for members that bring a variety of skills and experiences reflecting the vast diversity of our family structures and community.
