Rainbow Families has compiled School Climate Snapshots of DMV area public school systems.  These snapshots were created to serve as tools for LGBTQ+ parents who have children approaching school age, who are considering moving to another part of the DMV, or who are moving to the DMV area for the first-time from out of area.

These snapshots provide only a general overview of the quality and character of school life for LGBTQ+ students and LGBTQ+ families. School climate is based on patterns of students', parents' and school personnel's experience of school life; it also reflects norms, goals, values, interpersonal relationships, teaching and learning practices, and organizational structures.

Each snapshot includes information on whether or not state, county/local, and school board law, policies, and regulations addressing nondiscrimination, bullying, and harassment are inclusive of sexual orientation and gender identity.  When available, the snapshots include data from recent youth risk behavior surveys or other school environment assessments. Additionally, the snapshots highlight key resources for parents and caregivers to refer to for more in depth information and to use as tools in advocating on behalf of their child and their family.

Key:

= Yes, there is an existing law, policy, and/or regulation.
